i phone 3g screen won’t turn on?

what happened first was i turned the i phone screen off manually, i tried to turn it on, but it won’t turn on, then i plug it into a charger and the screen comes back on, i shrugged this off because it didn’t seem like that big a deal. then the phone’s screen went black because i wasn’t using it like five minutes later, i try to turn it on and it won’t, then i plugged it into the charger and it still won’t work, i still receive texts and phone calls, i just cant do anything about it, i tunes also recognizes the phone when its plugged into the computer can some one please tell me what to do to get the screen on
